It was only in 2012, the Election Commission of India (ECI) included the category 'others' in the electoral roll. Transgenders could enrol themselves as voters under this category.

There are 4.9 lakh transgenders in India. The official government data takes into account mostly transwomen and transmen are rarely documented. Even among the documented, only 7.8% of them are registered voters as of 2019.

Daniel Mendonca is an intersex. Daniel is one of the 38,325 voters who are enrolled as 'other' voters in this elections. In this video, Daniel talks about why every vote matters and the need for equal representation for the LGBTIQ+ community in the parliament.

" When I vote, I want to see a change towards my community, when I vote I am looking forward for a change" says Daniel.
