The up coming Lok Sabha election is expected to witness the highest number of first time voters in the age bracket of 18-19 year olds at 23 million, according to data released by the Election Commission. (Data updated till 14th Feb)

However, the total number of these voters comprises only 2.8 percent of the total electorate of the 814.6 million that are eligible to vote for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Out of the data released, Nagaland with 50.4% female voters in this age group is the sole state where the number of newly eligible female voters exceeds that of newly eligible male voters. This is followed by Mizoram and Manipur at 49.9%.

Haryana has the lowest proportion at 28.3% followed next by Maharashtra at 35.4%, Gujarat, Punjab and Chandigarh at 36.2%.

The most populated state Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of voters in the age group of 18-19 at 3.81 million. Of that, male voters comprised 60.4% while female voters were 39.6%.

Karnataka has the highest no of voters in the "Other category" at 2,589 voters.
