The Ministry of Agriculture recently released guidelines for spending Rs 300 crore in implementing a Vegetable Initiative. Yes, that's what it’s called. Well, the objective is to 'set in motion a virtuous cycle of production and income for farmers and assured supply for consumers'. Of course the consumers follow later. The programme as it is called is being launched near cities. The scheme will fund specific projects (managed by the states) which in turn will do so many things that the Rs 300 crore will run out less than half way, is our sense.
It includes organising vegetable growers into associations, figuring the processing and sorting to post-harvest management. So if you are a budding agri-entrepreneur, go ahead and pitch to the Rashtriya Kirshi Vikas Yojana here.
