Mumbai's Tree Authority has deferred permission to cut trees inside Mumbai's green patch of Aarey. Over 2700 trees were to be cut to house Mumbai's metro car shed. Even the Shiv Sena which controls the city's municipal corporation has opposed the move to cut trees in order to make the car shed.
And set against this is Mumbai’s desperate need for better infrastructure.The metro transport is an attempt to decongest the city’s choked roads of traffic and ease some pressure on the overburdened suburban rail network.
