The Lok Sabha elections that are underway, which started on April 7, is the longest in recent memory. The last ballot will be cast on May 12, 2014 - the process lasting over 35 days or 1 month and 5 days or 840 hours!

India had general elections spread over one month on three more occasions: 1999, 1996 and 1952. The first Lok Sabha elections in 1952 was the longest, spread over 119 days or 3 months and 27 days or 2,856 hours!

The shortest Lok Saha polls was in 1980 - 3 days or 72 hours!
