India has resolved to phase out single use plastic by 2025 in the latest United Nations Environment Assembly. However, its a tall task for a nation that consumes nearly 16.5 million tonnes of plastic every year.

The lack of data also makes it difficult for the government to monitor the use and disposal mechanisms of plastic employed by various states and UT's . For the past 2 consecutive years 10 out of 35 states & Union Territories have not reported their data to the Central Pollution Control Board
